KATIE CARLIN – WIFE, OWNER & ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

When Katie met John at University in 2001 he had just bought a whole set of shiny new SCUBA diving equipment.  Katie proceeded to put on all of John’s equipment and decided she looked quite cool and that she should try this new sport! She also wanted to impress John!  That summer she went home and told her brother he was going to learn to dive with her.  They did their theory and pool dives at home in England and then completed the open water dives in Bermuda!

Being claustrophobic Katie was worried that she wouldn’t cope very well with being deep underwater with only a mask and regulator, however as soon as she hit the water she forgot her fears and was lost in this new and exciting world of strange animals and amazing colour.

The next year Katie went out to Indonesia with John to work on an Eco Tourism project and from then on has never looked back.  Unlike John, Katie is obsessed with the big animals and can often make her self dizzy on a dive going round and round scouring the blue for a glimpse of a shark, turtle or most importantly a Manta Ray.   She has never seen a Manta ray, not even on her honeymoon which she carefully planned to Mozambique to see guaranteed Manta’s and Whale Sharks. Her quest continues and she wont give up until she has found these strange creatures! 

Katie is also obsessed with taking lots of underwater photos and often sees the whole dive through a lens, probably why she always misses the Manta Rays!
